For over 50 years, televisions have been the primary source of entertainment and information gathering for households all over the world. By the end of the 2000s, the analogue terrestrial signals have been replaced with digital signals, marking the beginning of new era in the history of television. With the emergence of digital televisions, many new technologies have been created to help the users experience as many functions as they can through a simple push of the button, even from the comfort of their living room. Among these technologies, we can find the HbbTV platform, which combines the pros of both broadband and digital broadcast technologies.

This document introduces the services provided by the HbbTV platform, with more emphasis on the receiver’s test specification, the requirements of digital broadcasting and also the CE-HTML standard, which serves as the base of HbbTV. During the semester - using these formentioned informations - I created a test system, which can be used in the testing and rating of HbbTV receivers. I had also documented the steps of planning and developing the test system, mentioning the possibilities of further development.
