YouTube is one of today’s most popular video-sharing websites, where users can upload their contents without any limit in duration and quality, serving both entertainment and education purposes.

My task was to create a statistical analysis about the videos found in YouTube’s categories. To do so, I had to build a database using the API provided by YouTube. I built the database by writing a JavaScript code, which was able to run in web browser environment, and could download the data about the 500 most viewed video of each category, and sort it by view count.

Then, using Microsoft Excel, I’ve examined the given database from two points of view: firstly, I’ve created statistical analysis from the data I’ve got, separated by categories, based on view count, daily average view count, Like/Dislike rate and number of comments. After these, I’ve selected every category’s most viewed and most popular video, and created a summary analysis from it, to make the relative statistics of the video categories visible.
