The purpose of this thesis work is to implement an open source, free software application intended to analyze the network coverage efficiency in case a technology called Loop Free Alternate (LFA) is enabled by network operators within their networks and to provide suggestions for optimizing the network availability by boosting up the coverage efficiency by LFA, giving the network more reliability and availability, especially for the continuous spreading of real-time applications such as VoIP, IPTV, online gaming, etc. LFA provides faster IP level protection for networks through pre-calculated backup routs, which avoid the global re-convergence with local rerouting, making the convergence time deterministic and doesn’t vary according to parameters such as the size of the routing table or link-state database, but due to its topology dependence, not all networks can be protected. LFA protection is being investigated and analyze in the thesis, along with network failure scenarios and how the software handle and analyze the network, and how it optimize the network coverage.
