Analisys and development of Cloud infrastructure

Virtualization is widely spread nowadays and cloud systems can provide extra services on top of that new technology. Cloud systems are not just simplifying the management task but are also reducing the operational cost by using load-balancing optimization technologies.

Serving the students working on their thesis and research is one of the most common uses of the department’s computers. Motivated by the above advantages of a cloud system the apart from the department’s other virtualized infrastructures the idea of developing a cloud system for educational purposes raised.

The goal of this paper is to identify those requirements that such an infrastructure should satisfy and then to design and implement a cloud system that is based on existing open-source software but satisfies all the previously defined requirements.

After reviewing the virtualization and cloud computing related technologies I give a solution to the thesis’ problem and describe the architecture of the created OpenNebula based cloud.
